The star fruit is the fruit of the Carambola tree, known botanically as Averrhoa carambola. The cross section of this fruit resembles a five-pointed star, hence its name. The Carambola tree is native to the Philippines, although it is cultivated throughout the tropics. Like most fruit, the star fruit is high in sugar and vitamin C.
