The 24-Hour Diet Plan

As with many commercial diet plans, the 24-Hour Diet program offers a unique twist on how to lose weight. Instead of focusing on eating healthy and exercising, this diet plan puts the focus on controlling cravings by ensuring your body is getting the nutrients it needs – specifically, essential fatty acids, such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Though much of this diet program is based on years of scientific research, you should still consult your doctor before trying it.

The Facts

The 24-Hour Diet was created by Professor Brian S. Peskin, a cancer and cardiovascular specialist who graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1979. His program is an unconventional approach to losing weight that doesn’t involved excessive exercise or calorie counting, according to an online review of the 24-Hour Diet at DietSpotlight.com. The program is available at the official 24-Hour Diet website as a two-set DVD or as a book for $29.95 or $39.95, respectively, as of November of 2010.

How it Works

Once you acquire either the DVD set or the 24-Hour Diet in book form, the information included offers a five-step process to losing weight, including educating you about what’s really causing your weight gain and how to fix it. The focus on the program is on consuming more EFAs, or essential fatty acids, to help reduce carbohydrate cravings, appetite and to increase energy levels. According to Professor Peskin, the key to losing weight is a high-protein, lower-carb diet along with Parent Essential Oil, or PEO, supplementation. Consult your doctor before supplementing PEO in your diet.

Parent Essential Oils

PEOs are the only true essential fatty acids, according to Professor Peskin, and they include parent omega-6 and parent omega-3 fatty acids. The word “parent” was coined by Professor Peskin to signify that these EFAs were of higher quality than typical EFAs found on most store shelves. He claims that most EFAs on the market consist almost exclusively of derivatives caused by food processing and the manufacturing process, making them less effective than PEOs. PEOs are available in supplement form, although you should talk to your doctor before taking any supplement.


Professor Peskin points out that many of the current commercial diet plans don’t address the weight loss issue effectively. The 24-Hour Diet plan does not encourage counting calories, eating more than three meals-a-day, increasing fiber intake for weight loss purposes, consuming foods that are low on the glycemic index or exercising excessively. Instead of these weight loss techniques, the 24-Hour Diet stresses the importance of controlling hunger cravings caused by nutritional deficiency.


Do not begin the 24-Hour Diet program without first discussing it with your doctor, dietician or nutritionist. This weight loss program may not be effective for everyone, and it may even be harmful to some people with pre-existing medical conditions, such as hypertension or high cholesterol, and/or who take certain medications. Any diet program that does not support consistent, daily exercise should be questioned. As of 2010, more studies are needed to conclusively say that the 24-Hour Diet is a safe and effective weight loss program.
