Dermatologist Recommended Soaps
Not all body soaps work for everyone. If you have acne-prone skin, using a soap intended for normal skin will not help you. On the other hand, acne soaps may be too harsh for dry, sensitive skin. Try a variety of dermatologist-recommended soaps available over the counter in drugstores or grocery stores.
Dove Beauty Bars
For sensitive skin, dry skin and eczema, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Mayo Clinic recommend Dove. According to the Mayo Clinic, Dove contains fats and oils to provide added moisture to skin. Dove manufactures a variety of beauty bars, including Dove Pink and Dove Gentle Exfoliating. For particularly sensitive or acne-prone skin, Dove Sensitive Skin Unscented contains no added fragrances to irritate the skin. Dove is available at grocery stores and drugstores throughout the country.
Neutrogena Facial Cleansers
For the face, Neutrogena's facial cleansers, like Deep Clean Sport Facial Cleanser and Deep Clean Invigorating Daily Cleanser, are suggested by the Mayo Clinic. For acne-prone skin, the Mayo Clinic recommends an over-the-counter medication with salicylic acid, which is the active ingredient in Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash Redness Soothing Gentle Scrub. The Mayo Clinic also suggests Neutrogena to help soothe the symptoms of dry skin. Because Neutrogena makes a variety of soaps designed to cure different ailments, patients should check the indications before using any Neutrogena product on the skin. For example, a product containing alpha-hydroxy acid may help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, but would not help sensitive skin.
Basis Bar Soap
Basis is a gentle bar soap recommended by both the American Academy of Family and the Mayo Clinic for eczema and dry skin. Basis contains aloe vera and chamomile to help soothe skin, and additional moisturizers to soothe skin after showering. For best results, the American Academy of Family Physicians recommends showering in lukewarm or cool water for as short a time as possible in order to keep skin's moisture intact.
