Fun Things to Do With Kids in Howell, Michigan
Howell is a small town, just a one-hour drive from Detroit, Michigan. This community is home to about 9,400 residents. If you're a parent living in Howell, or are planning to make a visit to the area, you'll find an assortment of fun things to do with your kids, whether they are toddlers or teenagers.
Take your kids to the Howell Carnegie District Library (howelllibrary.org), where they can participate in an array of free activities. Your teens can enter photography contests, play Guitar Hero or drop in for Boredom Busters, with video games, board games, and arts and crafts. School-age kids can sign up for family reading and science workshops or drop in for building fun. Younger children can come by the library for story times that include stories, music, movement and age-appropriate activities. Or, you can take your kids to the Howell Area Historical Society Museum (howellareahistoricalsociety.org) to check out the railroad, depot and the caboose. Attend special events too, like the Howell History Days Celebration.
Attend some of the annual events that take place in Howell throughout the year. During the summer, there is the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest (michiganchallenge.com), with a dog show, family fun tent, carnival, arts and crafts, skydivers and, of course, lots of beautiful hot air balloons. In November, participate in the annual Fantasy of Lights Parade and Town Activities (fantasyoflights.info). Aside from the parade, your kids can see ice sculptures, make crafts and gingerbread houses, and participate in a 5K. Another event to consider is the Howell Melon Festival (howellmelonfestival.com), held annually in August. Kids can eat sweet treats, do some summer ice skating, attend a classic car show and participate in all sorts of exciting children's activities.
