Weight Watchers is a weight loss program with a presence in all fifty states. Men and women enrolled in the program learn to moderate their food consumption, make better nutritional choices and keep track of and improve their daily exercise habits in an effort to shed pounds and live healthier. The Points program is a characteristic feature of Weight Watchers, wherein individual foods are assigned a point value based on calories, fiber and fat. The Points system is designed to help dieters regulate how much food they consume.
Determine the nutritional content - specifically, calories, fat, and fiber - of a given item of food. This information can be gleaned from the packaging or from nutritional websites (see Resources.)
Divide the number of calories by 50. Every 50 calories is equal to one Point.
Divide the total number of fat grams by twelve to determine fat Points.
Divide by five the amount of dietary fiber in grams.
Calculate the point total for a given food according to following formula: calorie Points + fat Points - fiber Points.
