Causes of Nose Numbness
Nose numbness may appear anywhere on the nose or in the nasal cavity. The numbness may make the nose feel cold or be accompanied by a “pins and needles” sensation when movement is attempted. It may be accompanied by pain anywhere in the face or nose, stuffiness in the nose or numbness in other parts of the face. In some cases, this may be a sign of a serious condition, and a medical care professional should be consulted.
Nasal Cavity and Paranasal Sinus Cancer
The American Cancer Society states that one symptom of cancer of the nasal cavity or paranasal sinus cancer is numbness in the nose or other part of the face. This may be accompanied by pain in the face, blockage in the nose, a growth or mass in the face or nose, vision loss or enlarged lymph nodes. This is a serious condition that does not go away on its own.
Septoplasty
Complications of Nasal Polyp Surgery
Learn More
The wall inside the nose that separates the two nostrils is known as the nasal septum. Medline Plus defines a septoplasty as a surgery to correct problems in the nasal septum 1. After this surgery, numbness anywhere on the face may occur. Numbness on the tip of the nose may take months to disappear completely. The patient should avoid touching his or her nose after surgery, and if numbness or other symptoms lead to trouble breathing, nosebleeds that will not stop, high fever or chills or unstoppable pain, contact a doctor.

Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a surgery designed to reshape the appearance of the nose 2. There are some risks associated with rhinoplasty, including numbness in and around the nose area, according to the Mayo Clinic 2. Nosebleeds, difficulty breathing, pain, discoloration and scarring may occur. Talk to your doctor about the risks of rhinoplasty ahead of time to make an informed decision 2.
Frostbite and Other Injury
Cheek Bone Diseases
Learn More
Frostbite occurs most frequently on the exposed areas of the body. The Mayo Clinic describes the progression of frostbite as the skin becoming cold, numb, then hard and pale 23. Severe frostbite may damage skin, tissue, muscle and even bones. Numbness is the most common symptom. Numbness will occur wherever the frostbite is taking affect, including an exposed nose.
An injury to the nose or a deviated septum may also lead to nose numbness. If the injury is to the nose and accompanied by breathing difficulties, deformity of the nose, or excessive and persistent bleeding, consult a doctor. In the case of a deviated septum, the Mayo Clinic states that other symptoms may include congestion, sinus infections and nosebleeds 234. If this is the case, consult a doctor.
