Can You Take Collagen Powder for Youth?
Collagen is a type of protein that is essential to the development of many structures in the body, including bones, teeth, ligaments, muscles and skin. As the body ages, it produces less collagen, which can lead to skin dryness and wrinkles. Collagen supplements are purported to increase the amount of collagen in the body, promoting a more youthful appearance of the skin, but there is little medical evidence to support these effects. However, powdered supplements continue to be a common way to take collagen.
Do not eat at least three hours before taking collagen powder. The digestive activity in a full stomach destroys collagen.
Pour at least 8 oz. of water or juice in a glass.
Scoop out of the container the amount of collagen powder the manufacturer recommends, using a measuring spoon.
Add the collagen powder slowly to the glass of juice or water. Stir it with a spoon as you pour to break up any clumps that form. Keep stirring until the powder dissolves.
Drink the glass of water or juice.
Do not eat for at least 20 minutes so that your body can absorb the maximum amount of collagen.
Children under age 18 should not consume collagen powder without the consent and direction of a doctor.
