Anti Cellulite Diet

Cellulite is a problem that affects 90 percent of women, according to the CNN article "Elusive search for cellulite cure continues." It is not completely understood, but cellulite is believed to be genetic, at least to some extent. However, diet and cellulite are definitely related, and a proper diet can help reduce and prevent the problem.


Antioxidants help to cleanse the body and reduce free radical damage to the body. Free radicals are damaged molecules that are highly reactive and cause the oxidation of cells. Free radicals cause circulation destruction, which leads to cellulite. Antioxidants fight cell oxidation and include fruits and vegetables, such as berries, colorful peppers, tomatoes and dark green leafy vegetables. Two other sources of antioxidants that also contain cellulite-fighting enzymes are pineapples and papayas. The bromelain in pineapples and the papaine in papayas are two strong digestive enzymes that break up proteins to further prevent cellulite from forming.


Supplements, such as glucosamine, Vitamin C and Vitamin E are beneficial at correcting and preventing the problem of cellulite. Glucosamine, associated with joint health, builds and protects the connective tissues in the body. It is the breakdown of these tissues that cause the appearance of cellulite. Glucosamine cannot be obtained through food, so it must be supplemented at 1200 mg daily. Vitamins C and E are antioxidants that boost circulation, increase the production of the connective tissue collagen and protect against free radical damage. Sometimes these vitamins can be found combined in one supplement for additional protection against cellulite.


Cinnamon is one of the most popular spices, and some believe that there is a connection between cinnamon and a reduction in cellulite. Cellulite is related to poor circulation, and cinnamon increases circulation in the system, helping to stimulate the elimination of built-up toxins, such as cellulite, in the body. One half teaspoon sprinkled on oatmeal, cereal or in tea is all that is needed per day to reap the benefits of this spice.


Green tea is a strong anti-cellulite beverage. It is an antioxidant that prevents tissue damage, and it also boosts adrenalin production. By boosting adrenalin production, calories are burned more efficiently and around the clock, which prevents fat and toxins from storing in the body. Water is another important beverage to drink plenty of on a daily basis. Water encourages the body to eliminate toxins and keeps them from building up in the body. By regularly flushing out toxins, cellulite is flushed out and new cellulite is slow to form.


Certain foods contribute to the build-up of toxins and fat stores in the body as well as poor circulation for impaired release of toxins. This leads to increased cellulite as well as weight gain. The foods, beverages and substances include refined junk foods, fast food with high amounts of saturated fats, fried foods, alcohol, caffeine and nicotine.
