How to Detox With Strawberries, Grapes and Kiwi

By Stephanie Mitchell

A detoxification diet is designed to rid your body of toxins, give your liver and kidneys a break and refresh your entire system. Talk to your doctor before beginning a detox diet. While no diet that consists of a single food group is healthy in the long term, a detox diet limits you to natural foods that are easy to digest. Strawberries, grapes and kiwi are among these foods. Fruits are a major component of most detoxes, because they contain fiber, vitamins and water. Follow a strict detox diet for no more than 10 days, and include a protein source in at least two meals each day.

  1. Devote at least half of your plate at each meal to fresh fruits and vegetables, including strawberries, grapes and kiwis. Also include cruciferous vegetables, such as kale, broccoli and cabbage, for fiber and bulk.

  2. Blend strawberries, kiwis and grapes into fruit smoothies for breakfast, or chop them into fruit salads for lunch. Include a protein or fat source, such as avocado, flax seeds or raw nuts, in your smoothie or salad.

  3. Cook brown rice and use it as a meal complement instead of wheat products. Brown rice has a high fiber and protein content, making it a good choice for detox diets.

  4. Eliminate meat, eggs and dairy foods from your diet. Replace them with tofu or beans for protein.

  5. Incorporate healthy fats into your diet to replace the calories you are removing. Eat avocado and raw, unsalted nuts and seeds, which contain omega-3 oils that are good for your heart and skin.

  6. Dress salads and season entrees with vinegar and spices. Vinegar helps your body detox, and spices such as ginger, cinnamon and sea salt are permitted in most detox diets.

  7. Cut out all processed foods, caffeine, alcohol, animal products and refined sugars from your diet. Many detox diets also omit potatoes, corn, salt, all grains except brown rice, and all oils except extra virgin olive oil and flax seed oil.

  8. Drink plenty of water for the duration of your detox. You need at least eight cups each day to help flush toxins from your system.

  9. Tip

Make sure you are getting enough calories, protein and fat during your detox. Your doctor can help you establish a daily caloric intake and diet that is right for you during your detox.

A detox diet is not designed for optimal health over time. Do not continue a detox diet for more than 10 days.
