Caffeine in Slim-Fast
Weight loss products often contain an abundance of ingredients, including various additives, nutrients and chemicals. Caffeine is a common ingredient in many diet aids and weight loss products. The caffeine content of the products can vary, depending on the individual flavors and ingredients. Slim-Fast is one brand of weight-loss product that includes a line of meal replacement shakes.
Cappuccino Delight Shake
According to the University of Utah, a 12-oz. can of Slim-Fast Cappuccino Delight Shake contains 40 mg of caffeine. This flavor of Slim-Fast shake includes coffee powder as one of the main ingredients. This Slim-Fast flavor supplies your body with 190 calories, with 50 of the calories from fat.
French Vanilla Shake
The French Vanilla Slim-Fast shake doesn't list caffeine on the ingredient label. It doesn't contain coffee powder, making it a more suitable choice than the cappuccino flavor for people trying to cut back on caffeine. One 12-oz. serving of the French vanilla flavor contains 180 calories. It also provides 50 calories from fat sources.
Caffeine is a common ingredient in many diet products. The amount of caffeine in a Slim-Fast cappuccino shake is relatively small compared to the amount of caffeine in other beverages and diet aids. For instance, 2 to 4 cups of coffee, the usual amount a coffee drinker consumes during the day, supply your body with between 200 and 400 mg of caffeine, says a University of New Mexico report. Some diet products and weight-loss aids, such as diet pills that contain guarana, contain about twice the amount of caffeine as coffee beans.
Although the Slim-Fast cappuccino shake contains only a minimal amount of caffeine, and the vanilla shake has no caffeine, these meal replacement shakes may not provide the necessary benefits that can help you reach and maintain an optimal weight. According to Colorado State University Extension, the Slim-Fast program doesn't teach good eating habits and dieters may find it difficult to maintain weight loss after discontinuing the shakes. If you're overweight, talk to your doctor about a healthy weight loss program that includes a nutritious diet plan and exercise program. Avoid making radical changes to your diet without your doctor’s approval, especially if you have an existing health condition.
