That painful sore on your tongue is actually a canker sore 2. These painful little sores, which are technically small ulcers, can appear anywhere in the mouth including the tongue. Luckily, treating your tongue sore is simple, as long as you remember to apply the remedies to your mouth on a regular basis until the sore disappears. It is also important to think about any dietary changes you made before you got the canker sore. Canker sores often a reaction to food, but can also result from hormonal changes, mostly in adolescent teenagers, and injuries to the mouth.

Mix baking powder with a small amount of water until you make a slurry. Dip a cotton swab in the slurry and apply the swab directly on the sore. The baking soda will kill harmful bacteria in the mouth. This should be done twice a day.
Hold milk of magnesia in your mouth for several minutes so the sore is completely coated. This will help the healing process and help sooth the pain caused by the sore.

Take vitamin B supplements to aid your immune system. Vitamin B is one of the most important vitamins in fighting bacterial and viral infections.
Do not eat any foods that irritate your mouth such as spicy foods or fruits high in citrus. Irritating the sore will slow down the healing process.
