A List of Foods Not to Eat With a Bad Gallbladder

Gallbladder disease can be a painful and disrupting illness 1. Pain in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen just below the ribs is a common symptom of gallbladder disease 1. Additionally, people who suffer from this condition may experience heartburn, nausea and vomiting that are often associated with the types of food that they eat. Although the advice of a physician should be followed concerning your condition and treatment, there are some foods that you should avoid if you have a bad gallbladder 1.

Fatty Foods

Although all fats should not be avoided, bad fats such as trans-saturated and polyunsaturated fats should be avoided. These fats inhibit the gallbladder to produce enough bile into the intestine to properly digest consumed foods 1.

Carbonated Beverages

The carbonation in beverages such as soda and sparkling water can actually inhibit the production of bile from the gallbladder 1. Sugar in these drinks also inhibits the gallbladder's normal function 1. Opt instead to drink water, which is a necessary substance for detoxification of impurities in the body and a healthy functioning digestive tract.

Red Meats

Red meats are high in unhealthy fats and are harder for our bodies to digest. Therefore, the gallbladder must work harder and produce extra bile to digest these meats 1. Instead of red meats, consume white meats such as fish and pork. Additionally, be sure to remove any excess fat from meats before cooking and consuming.
