Can You Heal Gum Disease With Cayenne Pepper?

By Joe Lewis

Gum disease is a general term used to describe any inflammatory infection affecting the tissues surrounding the teeth. Gum disease can range from gingivitis, which is a mild condition that causes inflammation of the gums, to periodonitis, an advanced form of gingivitis that may cause tooth loss. Symptoms of gum disease include swollen gums, bad breath and gums that bleed easily. According to Sandra Senzon, author of "Reversing Gum Disease Naturally: A Holistic Home Care Program," you may treat gum disease with an application of a cayenne pepper tincture to relieve symptoms. Cayenne pepper is rich in capsaicin, a pain-relieving property that may reduce pain and swelling. Always consult a medical professional before pursuing alternative treatment.

Add 3 to 4 drops of the cayenne pepper tincture to a toothbrush.

Apply the tincture to your gums with the toothbrush in a quick brushing motion on your top gums. You may experience a slight tingling sensation that should stop within several minutes.

Add an additional 3 to 4 drops of the cayenne tincture to the toothbrush. Apply the tincture to your bottom gums. Apply the tincture at least once a day to help relieve pain and possibly reverse your gum disease.
