Pearls Probiotics

By Cynthia Myers

Pearls Probiotics are an acidopholus supplement manufactured by Enzymatic Therapy, Inc, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Pearls are a shelf-stable product that doesn't need to be refrigerated. The manufacturer recommends you take one Pearls capsule daily to support your digestive and immune system. Pearls contain two strains of probiotics — Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum.

Probiotics

Probiotics live in your digestive system. These beneficial bacteria aid in digestion and help keep out bad bacteria that can cause diarrhea and upset stomach. If you take antibiotics, contract an illness or become run-down due to stress, some of the beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract may die off. Probiotics repopulate your digestive tract with beneficial bacteria. Harvard Probiotics are effective for treating diarrhea in children. They also show promise for easing the suffering of irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn's disease.

Sources

Probiotics occur naturally in many fermented foods such as yogurt and sauerkraut. Kefir, buttermilk and sour cream are other sources of this beneficial bacteria. If you purchase these foods for their probiotics, look for a notation on the label that they contain live, active cultures of bacteria. You can also find beverages and juices fortified with probiotics. Instead of eating your probiotics, you can also swallow them in the form of capsules and pills, including Pearls.

Delivery System

Pearls take their name from their tiny size and pearl-like appearance. The hard outer coating of the round capsule encloses thousands of dormant micro-organisms. Once these organisms hit your digestive tract, the outer capsule dissolves, the micro-organisms come to life and set to work. Enzymatic Therapy, Inc., refers to the coating around the bacteria as its True Delivery system. The coating stays intact through the stomach until it reaches the intestinal tract. Since stomach acid can kill off bacteria, including acidophilus, this means more bacteria reach your intestines alive.

Other Products

In addition to Acidophilus Pearls, the company produces Pearls Elite, which contains higher doses of probiotics; Pearls IC, which has three times the probiotics as regular Pearls; Pearls Immune, which combines probiotics and lactoferrin to support your immune system; and a Pearls Kids for children.
