Scholarships and Grants for Single Fathers

By Rebecca Lake ; Updated June 13, 2017

In a one-parent family, it can be difficult to balance work with raising a child. Single parents who dream of pursuing a college degree are often prevented from doing so by financial obstacles. Fortunately, there are a number of scholarship and grant programs designed to make a college education more affordable and attainable. Single fathers can take advantage of these funding opportunities to pursue their first degree, continue their education or change careers.

Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund

The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to Arkansas residents who have custodial care of at least one child under the age of 18. Single fathers who are interested in applying for the scholarship must be considered economically disadvantaged and have not previously completed a four-year degree. An exception is made for fathers who are pursuing a Master of Arts degree in teaching. Individual award amounts vary and additional eligibility criteria varies by county.
