Although some may mistake genital warts for a yeast infection or ringworm for common warts, there are at least two different mechanisms at work. Warts are the result of varieties of the human papilloma virus while ringworm and yeast infections are fungi infections. Both types of infections tend to result from a person being rundown or with a compromised immune system and both viruses and fungi infections can be contagious, passing from person to person when an active infection in one person comes in contact with broken skin or mucous membranes of another person whose immune system isn’t strong enough to fight the infection off. Cures depend on proper diagnosis of which infection is targeted. Fungi infections are fought with antifungals and viral infections with antivirals. Prevention includes proper hygiene, protected sex and not getting run down.
Traditional Wart Treatments
Cryotherapy (freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen), laser surgery or applications of strong percentages of salicylic acid as common treatments for warts, according to the Mayo Clinic 1. Because the treatments take a long time to work (sometimes months or even years) it may be just as well to try home remedies.
Alternative Wart Cures
Mayo Clinic staff report a study that showed duct tape applied over the wart was helpful in clearing up the virus.
Traditional Antifungal Treatments
Antifungal creams, sprays and powders can be used on fungal infections like athlete’s foot or ringworm. Antifungal creams and ointments are prescribed for yeast infections.
Alternative Fungal Treatments
Since antifungal treatments don’t always work effectively, you can try alternative treatments. Cranberry juice and pushing fluids in general is suggested by the Mayo Clinic. You can buy probiotic, unsweetened yogurt suppositories to treat yeast infections. You can buy the suppositories at health food stores. The “good” bacteria in probiotic yogurt is supposed to balance the vagina and help the healing process recover from yeast infections.
Alternative wart cures include doing nothing and leaving the benign wart undisturbed so it can heal on its own, and folk remedies like vitamin E oil, clove oil, aloe vera juice, milkweed juice as applications to the warts.
