By Frank Dioso ; Updated July 27, 2017

Blood clots are the clusters that form when blood solidifies from a liquid to a solid (coagulation). A blood clot that solidifies inside an artery, vein or within the heart and stays there is termed a thrombus. A thrombus that journeys from the heart or blood vessel to another location in the body is termed an embolus. The disease is called an embolism. Blood clots can be life threatening if not treated. This article will show you how to prevent and treat blood clots using natural herbal supplements.

Take two ginkgo biloba tablets daily. Ginko biloba contains terpenoids and flavonoid glycosides, which prevent blood clots from forming. Ginkgo biloba also increases blood flow to the brain and prevents strokes.

Eat plenty of ginger. Cook foods with a generous amount of ginger.Ginger extracts prevent the clumping of human blood platelets. This is especially of value to patients with high risk of getting dangerous blood clots. You can also eat plenty of ginger candy after each meal for maximum benefit.

Take garlic tablets. Garlic contains allicin, which acts as a blood thinner. Garlic is especially beneficial if you are prone to dangerous blood clots in the leg. Aside from garlic tablets, you can maximize the effects by adding plenty of garlic to your dishes.

Take Yarrow tablets twice a day. This herb contains flavonoids, which act by dilating the peripheral arteries. It also helps reduce high blood pressure and prevents migraines.

Take turmeric tablets three times a day. Turmeric contains two enzymes called LOX and COX-2 in the body, which prevents human platelets from clumping together to produce blood clots. Most Indian dishes contain high amounts of turmeric.
