Dry skin above the lip is a frustrating problem because it is often recurring. This condition can have many causes, including age, changes in exposure to weather, lack of water or a skin condition. However, there are a few things you can do to control and eliminate the problem of dry skin above your lip. Doing things such as changing the products you use on your skin and using moisturizers during drastic changes in weather can help you hydrate your dry skin.
Drink enough water on a day-to-day basis. Drink a minimum of 1 liter of water in order to keep your skin hydrated.
Avoid licking, scratching or excessively touching the skin above your lip. Excess touching could remove moisture from your skin and cause further irritation.
Apply a moisturizing cream to the skin above your lip. Moisturize your skin daily to keep it supple.
Lessen your use of Chapstick, which can irritate the skin around your lips. Or instead of using Chapstick, switch to a cocoa lip balm to keep your lips moisturized.
If self-treatment does not help your dry skin, consider seeing your doctor. You could possibly have a dermatitis condition that may need to be treated with a medicated cream.
