How to Maintain Weight Loss After Nutrisystem

Nutrisystem is an internet-based dieting program that aids in weight loss by providing packaged meals and shipping them to your front door. The diet is a helpful starting point for weight loss and helps you focus on what you put into your body. Overtime you may tire of the same packaged meals, or simply cannot afford it. Going off Nutrisystem doesn’t mean gaining back the weight, and learning some tips for life after Nutrisystem can help you keep those pounds away and maintain weight loss.

Focus on healthy carbohydrates and avoid bad ones. A mainstay of the Nutrisystem diet is its focus on eating carbohydrates with a low-glycemic index. Avoid consuming processed grains and starches and instead opt to get your carbohydrates through whole grains, along with fruits and vegetables that contain fiber.

Don’t eat foods with a lot of fat, or that are greasy or processed. This means eliminating fast foods, or at least keeping it to a splurge you do once every couple weeks. Nutrisystem helps you to cater your diet to what’s healthy and after the program it’s up to you not to lose focus and get back into habits of eating unhealthy foods.

Separate meals into three meals a day with some snacks in between. Include a source of lean protein with each meal, along with some fiber and essential vitamins and minerals through whole grain breads, fruits and veggies. For example you could do a whole wheat biscuit topped with an egg and some fruit for breakfast, a chicken salad with vegetables for lunch and a lean steak with some steamed vegetables and brown rice for dinner.

Stick with snacks that contain lots of protein or fiber to keep you feeling full between your meals. Nuts, vegetables and fruits high in fiber and protein, a few slices of lean meat or beef jerky, low-fat hummus on a whole wheat bagel or even a bit of peanut butter on whole wheat toast are all good examples of between meal snacks.

Pay attention to when you are hungry and full. Nutrisystem helps you with correct portion control and keeping your hunger in check, without overeating. Not eating when you are hungry can lower your metabolism and cause you to burn less calories, while eating when you‘re already feeling full is just taking in unnecessary calories.

Stick with water. Drink water throughout the day to keep yourself feeling full and hydrated. If you love soda treat yourself to one a couple times a week at most, and if you are a coffee lover try and switch to caffeinated teas with no sugar. You can sabotage a healthy diet by drinking sugar and carb-filled drinks and gaining extra calories that way.

Maintain your exercise routine. Nutrisystem encourages that you also establish exercise with it, so following your Nutrisystem plan stick with whatever exercise you used to accompany it in order to keep the weight off.
