Heidi Klum Diet

If you are a fan of model Heidi Klum, you may be envious over her seemingly easy post-pregnancy weight loss. Within two months of giving birth to her son, Henry, Heidi walked the runway in the Victoria Secret Fashion Show. Heidi regained her shape with her trainer David Kirsch's "Ultimate New York Body Plan," which relied on high protein, low calories and daily workouts.

Time Frame

During the first two weeks of Heidi’s diet, avoid foods that cause bloating. Dairy items should be restricted, as well as fruits. After two weeks, you can add them back in small amounts, choosing fat-free versions. Refined carbs are restricted throughout the diet, but carbohydrates with a low glycemic index—like fruits, vegetables and whole grains—are allowed in small amounts after the initial two weeks.

Types

Most of Heidi's meals on the post-baby diet were made up of lean protein sources. Each morning, she would wake up and consume a protein shake. A couple of hours later, she would have an egg-white omelet made with vegetables. Lunch would be the biggest meal of the day. It consisted of lean meat, such chicken or turkey, and a salad. A side of vegetables sauteed in a little bit of olive oil can also be consumed at lunch. As a snack between lunch and dinner, a dozen raw nuts are allowed. Dinner is a small protein-rich meal, such as a protein shake or a cup of bean chili.

Features

If you want to follow Heidi Klum’s diet, steer clear of foods that are high in fat and sugar. Foods high in carbohydrates—such as breads, sweets, pasta and starchy vegetables—are restricted if you plan to follow the diet. Foods high in fat are also eliminated, including fatty cuts of meat and fried foods.

Considerations

Since fruit is restricted, you can get more fiber on the eating plan by adding a supplement to your protein shake. Whey protein and flax seed are examples of ingredients that can be added to the shakes to boost fiber.

Exercise

Exercise is also part of the weight-loss plan. Heidi’s post-baby exercise routine included yoga and strength training each morning and 45 minutes of cardio in the afternoons.

Warning

Don’t follow the Heidi Klum/David Kirsch diet plan unless advised by your doctor. The diet is low in calories and very restrictive and may not be appropriate for most people.
