Natural Diuretics to Lose Water Weight Gain

By Nina K.

Water can add several pounds to your frame, but you can often shed the weight by simply using the restroom. Overdoing the diuretics can cause dehydration, but eating moderate amounts of diuretic foods may help you expel a safe amount of water. Also drink plenty of nonalcoholic fluids, because a well-hydrated body is less likely to retain water. Water retention can be serious, so see your physician if you feel severely bloated or if symptoms persist.

Water-Expelling Foods

A number of foods have diuretic properties, meaning they cause your body to flush water through urination. The University of Maryland Medical Center reports that asparagus, grapes, beets, onion, pineapple, pumpkin and garlic are all natural diuretics. These may react with diuretic drugs, so consult a health-care professional before eating them if you're taking other remedies for water retention.
