Foods That Produce Hot Flashes

Hot flashes might be the most well-known of all menopausal symptoms. Women with hot flashes can be red-faced and sweating even in a cold room. A result of the changing hormonal levels in a woman’s body, hot flashes can also be triggered or made worse by some foods.

Diet Has an Impact

No matter what the food or drink is, if it’s hot, it could trigger a hot flash, according to the North American Menopause Society. Alcohol may induce hot flashes, as may caffeine, whether in a hot beverage such as coffee or a cold beverage such as caffeinated iced tea. Spicy foods can also cause or increase hot flash symptoms, according to the Cleveland Clinic website. If you’re menopausal, you might want to avoid ethnic foods such as shrimp Creole, vindaloo, chicken curry and chili, or decrease the amount of spices and peppers called for in a recipe.
