Organic Black Tea to Flush Out Toxins

There is no medical evidence to back up the idea that you can forcibly flush toxins from your body. Your kidneys, liver and lungs efficiently process and excrete waste and toxins, and it is not possible to speed up this process. But, eating a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, nutrients and antioxidants may help your body’s natural detoxing systems do their jobs more efficiently. Organic black tea is not a miracle elixir, but it may have certain benefits when included in a lean and healthy diet.

True tea comes from the camellia sinensis plant, which is native to China. As with so many wonderful things, the discovery of tea is said to be an accident of dried leaves drifting into a Chinese emperor’s cup some 5,000 years ago. Black tea leaves are fermented for longer than green or white tea leaves, giving it a higher concentration of caffeine and a much richer taste. Black tea comes in many varieties and flavors, and can be served hot or cold.

The concept of flushing toxins from your body is a constant presence on the Internet, though there is no scientific basis to the idea behind it. Common sense dictates that drinking juices and water and eating only fresh, whole foods should make you feel better than a diet of processed, empty calories. But no food -- including organic black tea -- will forcibly flush toxins from your body.

Benefits

Organic black tea is high in antioxidants called polyphenols. These help clear your body of the free radicals that are produced as a result of your natural metabolic processes as well as exposure to environmental toxins. Free radicals are thought to be one cause of certain cancers and the less pleasant effects of aging. Antioxidants also help reduce the amount of low-density lipoproteins -- the “bad” cholesterol -- in your blood, which can help regulate your blood pressure. Tea is also considered an anti-inflammatory, according to the University of Michigan, and can help support your immune system.

Black tea contains approximately 30 percent as much caffeine as coffee does. In addition to its effect on your nerves, caffeine is a diuretic. Your kidneys work more efficiently when they are well hydrated, so make sure that you drink between 32 ounces and 64 ounces of water every day in addition to the organic black tea you consume.
