Calories Burned Using the Gravity Training System

The Gravity training system is a strength-training workout system that can help you burn calories at home.

About the Gravity Training System

The Gravity training system allows you to use your own body weight as resistance to tone your upper body, core and lower body. The system includes an inclined bench with a moving surface that can travel up and down the inclined surface of the machine. Also attached to the system are several hand attachments -- including handles and resistance cords with handles -- that provide stability during your workout and also help you work your upper body.

Factors Affecting Calorie Burn

The amount of calories you burn working out on using the Gravity training system depends on a number of factors. Your genetics, body weight, body composition and lean muscle mass, age and gender affect your calorie burn during a workout. Individuals with a higher body weight and more lean muscle mass tend to burn more than individuals with a lower body weight and less muscle mass; young individuals tend to burn more calories than older individuals; men tend to burn more calories than women. Of course, the duration and intensity of exercise also affects your calorie burn, with longer and more intense workouts burning more calories than a shorter a less intense workout.

Determining Your Calorie Burn

Though your individual calorie burn varies, the Harvard School of Public health offers information regarding the average calorie burn for strength training, the type of exercise you perform on the Gravity training system. A 155-pound individuals performing general weight training burns approximately 112 calories in 30 minutes, according to Harvard, while the same individual performing vigorous weight training burns 223 calories. To determine your specific calorie burn during your workout, wear a heart rate monitor. Your heart rate during your workout reflects the amount of energy you're using.


The Gravity training system provides a way for you to strengthen your muscles at home, as well as burn calories. However, to effectively lose weight, combine weight training on the Gravity training system with a cardiovascular workout, such as walking or jogging, as well as flexibility training to improve your range of motion.
