Is Ubiquinol Better Than CoQ10?
Coenzyme Q10, often abbreviated CoQ10, is found in all the cells of your body. It occurs in two forms: Ubiquinone and unbiquinol. Supplements labeled as CoQ10 are the ubiquinone form. Ubiquinone helps the body create energy, while ubiquinol acts as an antioxidant that helps protect cells from the damage of free radicals.
Ubiquinol vs. CoQ10
According to "The Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine," ubiquinol is easier to absorb than CoQ10. Suzy Cohen, RPh, author of "Diabetes Without Drugs: The 5-Step Program to Control Blood Sugar Naturally," recommends ubiquinol if you are over 30, or have heart disease or acid reflux, but CoQ10 is acceptable if you are in good health. "TotalHealth Magazine" concurs ubiquinol is more bioavailable, but disagrees it is better, since both forms of CoQ10 can convert to the other whenever your body requires. CoQ10 is an acceptable, affordable alternative to ubiquinol for most people.
