Scholarships for Asthmatic Athletes

If you suffer from asthma, your airways can become narrow and swell. As a result, you are likely to produce extra mucus and find yourself having difficulty breathing, according to MayoClinic.com. For many student athletes with asthma, asthma can make achieving athletic goals difficult. For students who have taken control of their asthma and excelled in athletics, you may be eligible for numerous scholarships designed specifically for asthmatic athletes.

Will to Win

The Merck Pharmaceutical company sponsors a scholarship for high school athletes battling through asthma entitled "Will to Win." This scholarship is for high school seniors that are disciplined, determined and have had success in dealing with their asthma. Candidates must show success on and off the field. The only other requirement is that candidates have been admitted and decided on a college for the upcoming fall semester.

Award of Excellence

The Award of Excellence scholarship program is sponsored by the Associates of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. This scholarship is designed for high school seniors with asthma. Seniors must excel in academics and be a leader in sports, or in other extracurricular activities.

Food Allergy And Anaphylaxis Network

The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network offers a number of $1,500 scholarship for students who have asthma as well as students with food allergies. Students must have a 3.5 GPA and be involved and a leader in activities, including athletics. The Food Allergy and Anaphlylaxis Network gives away additional scholarship money for asthmatic students who are interested in conducting research related to asthma and allergies.

Asthma And Allergy Foundation of America

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America offers college scholarship for incoming freshmen with asthma. The foundation awards two high school seniors a scholarship of $500 each year. Students must be diagnosed with asthma and demonstrate the ability to be role models for younger students dealing with asthma; athletics and other extracurricular activities qualify. Students must also write a personal essay to be eligible for consideration.
