Ingredients of PreNatal Plus Vitamins

By Leah Webber

PreNatal Plus vitamins are manufactured by a company called Vitabase. When a woman becomes pregnant, her physician will likely recommend that she start a prenatal vitamin right away. If the pregnancy is planned, in most cases, taking prenatal vitamins will begin before conception. These vitamins are so important at this stage of life because the woman's body should be at its absolute healthiest -- at the time of conception, throughout the pregnancy and while the mother is nursing. Furthermore, the expectant mother is undergoing many physical demands and needs a much higher amount of vitamins than normal, since two lives are being supported from within one body. Vitabase instructs the user to take four pills as one serving per day, along with a meal.

Vitamin A

One serving of PreNatal Plus vitamins contains 200 percent of the daily needed amount of vitamin A. This is a fat-soluble vitamin that provides support for normal cell reproduction, vision, growth of the embryo, proper development and immune function.

Complete Vitamin B Complex

PreNatal Plus vitamins contain a convenient source of all needed B vitamins. Every serving contains more than 100 percent of each. Normally, B vitamins must be obtained from organ meats, such as chicken liver or kidneys, to get a comparable source. The B vitamins are water-soluble and contribute to many processes in the body from circulation, brain function, digestion and assimilation, to immune function and many more. Folic acid is also necessary at this time; it is included in the B complex and is also known as vitamin B9.

Vitamin C

PreNatal Plus vitamins contain 250 percent of needed daily vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential for forming connective tissues, formation of collagen fibers, which connect many parts of the body internally, and immune function.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is produced naturally in the human body after exposure to sunlight. Since many factors may determine the amount of sunlight a person is exposed to on a daily basis, it is important for a pregnant or lactating woman to get enough of this vitamin. Vitamin D has many uses in the body; the most important is its assistance in absorbing calcium. Vitamin D is also helpful in creating blood cells and reducing the risk of some forms of cancer. One serving of PreNatal Plus vitamins contains 100 percent of the needed daily amount of vitamin D.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin needed in the body for maintaining a normal healthy cardiovascular system. It is also an antioxidant that helps to protect the body's cells from free radicals, such as damaged food molecules after too much processing, chemical additives and pollution. PreNatal Plus vitamins contain more than 200 percent of the needed daily amount of vitamin E.

Vitamin K

PreNatal Plus vitamins contain about 125 percent of the daily needed amount of vitamin K. This vitamin plays an important role in bone metabolism and blood clotting. Vitamin K is also helpful in raising the body's ability to transport calcium from where it is stored to where it is needed.

PreNatal Plus vitamins contain equal to or more than 100 percent of all the following trace minerals: iron, magnesium, selenium, zinc, manganese and chromium. Calcium is supplied in one serving in the amount of 80 percent of the needed daily amount, with molybdenum at 33 percent and only trace amounts of potassium at 7 percent.

Other Ingredients

PreNatal Plus vitamins contain some additional ingredients which their label claims they have not determined the percentage of recommended daily consumption for. These ingredients include choline, PABA, ginger root, chamomile flower extract and raspberry leaves.
