How Many Calories Are in Pure Maple Syrup?
Pure maple syrup comes from the sap of maple trees. The "syrup" you find in most restaurants, or the cheap stuff in stores, is likely not real maple syrup. It is far more likely to be a blend of corn syrup and artificial flavors that imitate maple. Pure maple syrup has a complex taste influenced by its region, the tree's genetics and the weather.
One tablespoon of pure maple syrup has 50 calories and is predominately a carbohydrate. Pure maple syrup has no protein. Almost all of pure maple syrup's calories derive from carbohydrates; a small amount -- 0.7 percent -- come from fat.
