What Supplements Dry Up Sinus Congestion?

Herbs and supplements are complementary medicines, often used to treat ailments such as the colds and sinus congestion. Nasal congestion results from mucous build-up in the lungs; it inhibits your breathing passages. Wheezing, chest tightness, labored breathing and swollen nasal passages can be alleviated using certain supplements. Do not use these in lieu of regular medication and consult your doctor before using herbs and supplements.

Wasabi

Wasabi dries up congestion by breaking down mucus, allowing your body to easily expel it. You can consume wasabi in tea or take it in capsule form. This herb can be found at most local health food stores and vitamin shops.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is beneficial to combating congestion, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Eucalyptus is available in capsules and as tea. To treat sinus congestion, you can also place a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a cloth and holding under your nose or chew on eucalyptus leaves. UMMC researchers state that the leaves contain tannins, which reduce inflammation. This herb also kills bacteria causing bad breath, an unfortunate side effect of sinus congestion.

Ginger

Ginger root powder is commonly used to dry up nasal congestion, according to the Natural Home Remedies site. Ginger helps reduce the feeling of pressure that results from sinus infections. Like eucalyptus, there are several ways to consume ginger. Add it to foods, teas, and use while cooking, or take a spoonful of ginger by itself. You can add sweetness by mixing it with honey, which can also combat allergens.
