How to Stop Hair Loss Immediately

By A.G. Moody ; Updated August 14, 2017

When treating hair loss, it's important to remember that stopping it immediately is not the same as seeing immediate results. Due to the growth cycle of hair, even the most successful hair loss treatment, Propecia, may take three months to show visible results. The leading cause of pattern baldness is an abundance of dihydrotestosterone, and Propecia and Nizoral will begin to reduce DHT levels almost immediately. It just will take some time before the results are evident.

  1. See your doctor. Your doctor will be able to tell you if your hair loss is due to traditional androgenetic alopecia, commonly referred to as male pattern baldness, or if it is being caused by other factors. If your hair loss is caused by male pattern baldness, your doctor can give you a prescription for Propecia.

  2. Take Propecia tablets as prescribed. Propecia is merely a 1mg tablet of finasteride and is taken once per day with or without meals. Propecia is for men only and there isn't any additional benefit from taking more than the prescribed dosage. Reported side effects of Propecia include erectile dysfunction and a reduction in sperm count. These side effects were noted in less than 2 percent of men.

  3. Wash hair with Nizoral shampoo once every three days. Keep the shampoo on your scalp for the length of your shower before rinsing off. The active ingredient in Nizoral is ketoconazole, which has been shown to be an effective treatment for male pattern baldness in clinical studies. One study, conducted by the Department of Dermatopathology, University of Liège, Belgium, said ketoconazole improved hair size and the number of hair-producing follicles at nearly an identical rate as 2 percent minoxidil.
