Burnt hair most commonly occurs from overuse of curling irons or other heat treatments used for styling purposes over time or from an accident. While burnt hair can be difficult to remedy, there are some natural treatments that can help to restore moisture and begin to repair the hair faster. These remedies have not been approved by the FDA, however, so consult your doctor before starting any new treatments, especially if you are already on medication or using topical prescription treatments.
Whole Eggs and Coconut Oil
According to Jethro Kloss, author of "Back to Eden: The Classic Guide to Herbal Medicine, Natural Foods, and Home Remedies Since 1939,” a mixture of whole eggs and coconut oil can help to soothe and repair burnt and extremely dry hair 1. To make and use this mixture, combine 1 whole egg with 5 tbsp. coconut oil in a small container and whisk thoroughly to combine. Massage the mixture onto the roots of the hair and along the hair follicles, making sure to get the mixture from the root to the tip. Leave the mixture in your hair for 30 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water and washing with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. This treatment can be used once per day as long as no skin or scalp irritation occurs, and larger portions can be made up to 48 hours in advance for later use.
