The Best Relief for Arthritis Pain

As the body ages, joint pain becomes more common, but it doesn't have to limit everyday activities. There are some simple steps which we can all do to help minimize and even alleviate the pain and discomfort we feel in our joints.


There are many supplements on the market today, but one of the most effective supplements for joint pain is glucosamine sulfate. Glucosamine sulfate helps restore and revitalize the cartilage within the joints. Since cartilage is not as strong as bone, it tends to wear down quicker and causes pain and inflammation in the joint. Glucosamine sulfate will help alleviate that inflammation while promoting healthy cartilage function. Most will take glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin together, to more effectively restore joint health. Products available in stores today will generally have both supplements in them and are available in multiple forms, such as capsule or liquid.

Ice and Heat

Relatively simple and inexpensive, one of the best treatments for arthritis pain is ice and heat. Placing an ice pack on an inflamed joint for 20 minutes will help reduce the inflammation surrounding the joint. By reducing the inflammation, the joint can now properly receive the blood flow it needs to heal. To help stimulate that blood flow even more, place a heating pad on the joint for no more than 20 minutes. This will help freshly oxygenated blood reach the joint to help heal the injured areas.


While most people would believe that exercise would actually increase joint pain and discomfort, it does just the opposite. Increasing muscle strength through strength training can help stabilize the joints of the body. Stabilizing the joints can reduce wear and tear on the cartilage which was causing inflammation. Strong, stable joints create healthy environments for the cartilage and bones. Exercising can also reduce your weight, which could be contributing to the arthritis. Excessive weight gain places unnecessary pressure on the joints, which in turn causes joint pain. By exercising, you can lose the weight which is causing you pain, while you are strengthening your joints to avoid future aches and pains.
