How to Stop Hair From Graying
Hair that turns gray is the result of improper protein synthesis. This is primarily the result of heredity, but those whose hair turns gray do not have to sit idly by and accept the loss of color as reality. There are plenty of artificial coloring treatments that you can purchase at your salon or even change your color at home, but there are also more natural ways to return color to your hair.
Combine one cup of coconut oil and the juice from one squeezed lemon and mix it together for five to 10 minutes. Put this mixture on your hair and let it sit for about 15 minutes before washing it out. Do this about three times a week. It's possible that you can retain dark color in your hair—it works best on black hair—up through the age of 70. This is not a medically proven, but it is a folk remedy that many people in the Philippines follow.
Take 1 cup of strong black tea and mix it with 1 tbsp. of salt. Let this mixture sit until it gets cold. Strain the tea and massage the mixture into your scalp so that it gets to the roots of your hair. Let it sit before rinsing it out. Do not shampoo after using it. Do this about three times a week.
Use a very mild shampoo if you wash your hair every day. Harsher shampoos tend to have a negative impact on protein synthesis and take away color. When you wash your hair, massage your scalp slowly and thoroughly. This will promote blood flow and make your scalp a healthier environment for hair to grow. Use conditioner after shampooing to further enhance your scalp
Try taking 1 tbsp. of blackstrap molasses every day for two weeks if you want to see quick results with getting rid of gray hair. Anecdotal evidence has been shared that the blackstrap molasses will reverse the graying process and restore hair color. Blackstrap molasses is is sold in health food stores and it contains calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron. These elements help promote healthy hair, but again there is no scientific evidence proving this will prevent grey hair 1.
