Supplements Are Not Regulated By FDA
Whenever a supplement such as organic apple cider vinegar is taken it is important to know the possible risks associated with that product prior to consumption.
The most important things to know about organic apple cider vinegar supplements is that supplements are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). According to the FDA's website, "manufacturers do not need to register their products with FDA nor get FDA approval before producing or selling dietary supplements." The FDA only gets involved if a product is found unsafe after it reaches the market.
All agricultural products labeled "organic" are regulated by the USDA and must comply with U.S. organic laws.
No Dosage Information Available
According to WebMD, no dosage information exists for apple cider vinegar or apple cider vinegar supplements as no proven treatment exists. In the case of one study, WebMD found that different supplement brands' dosages varied greatly between the companies even though the labels showed similar ingredients.
Possible Side Effects
Organic apple cider vinegar taken in small doses most likely does not have negative side effects. However, WebMD notes that several potential side effects are possible if taken in larger doses. The potential side effects listed include: tooth enamel as well as throat and mouth tissue damage, lowering of potassium and bone density levels, drug interactions and changes in insulin levels.
