How to Lose Weight With Rice Protein Powder

By Andrew Bennett ; Updated July 18, 2017

Losing weight with rice protein can be a good strategy for vegetarians or individuals with allergies. For example, many people cannot use whey protein because it comes from milk and can cause allergic reactions. Rice protein is processed with enzymes to separate the protein from the carbohydrates and fats. Quality products are not processed with high heat or chemicals, as these can denature or destroy the amino acids (building blocks of protein). Rice protein can be used in place of other dietary sources of protein.

  1. Use approximately 1 gram (g) protein per 1 lb. of body weight. Protein has a thermic effect on the body, meaning that it takes more energy to digest than either carbohydrates or fat. A 150-lb. male, for example, would try to get 150g of protein per day, divided throughout the day.

  2. Eat five to six smaller meals containing protein every day. Aim for 20 to 30g protein per meal. A sample meal plan might be having breakfast, lunch and dinner, with two or three rice protein shakes in between the other meals. “The Abs Diet” by David Zinczenko recommends these frequent meals for burning fat.

  3. Drink a serving of rice protein immediately before and after your weight-training workouts. Weight training breaks down muscle fibers, which requires many calories to repair in the 48 hours following your workout. The amino acids from rice protein provide your body with the needed nutrients to repair your muscles.

  4. Perform your cardio on an empty stomach when you wake up on non-workout days. Drink a rice protein shake immediately afterward. Cardiovascular exercise helps to burn calories and speeds up weight loss. Add several small sessions or one 30 to 60 minutes cardio workout, three to five days per week.

  5. Eat ice cream once in a while. In fact, you should eat one meal of whatever you want, one day per week. This alleviates the stress of dieting, but more importantly, it keeps your metabolism from slowing down as a result of dieting. This one simple trick can help you avoid dieting plateaus and keep the fat burning off.
