The Lindora diet, also known as Lindora Lean for Life, is a low-calorie, low-carbohydrate, low-fat weight-loss program. The Lindora diet mandates that you consume about 50 to 100 grams of carbohydrate, 60 to 90 grams of protein and 10 to 15 grams of fat per day. However, when participants of the Lindora diet reach a weight loss plateau, they are instructed to temporarily follow a drastically reduced calorie diet called the Lindora Plateau diet.
Lindora Diet Basics
The regular Lindora diet consists of three meals and three snacks per day. The diet emphasizes lean sources of protein but also includes some vegetables, fruit and whole grains. The Lindora diet is a type of high-protein diet; approximately 50 percent of a Lindora dieter's total daily caloric intake comes from lean sources of protein; carbohydrates and fat comprise about 30 percent and 20 percent, respectively.
What Is a Weight Plateau?
A weight loss plateau is defined as a period of time in which your body does not respond to the effects of your dieting efforts. In other words, you temporarily stop losing weight. According to Cynthia Graff, author of Lindora’s “Lean for Life” weight loss book, the exact cause of weight loss plateaus is not known. However, one possible explanation is that your body’s metabolism tends to slow down when you lower your daily caloric intake.
Followers of the Lindora diet who reach a weight loss plateau are instructed to follow the Lindora Plateau diet. This diet is designed to help promote weight loss after a period of stagnancy. Breakfast on the Lindora Plateau diet consists of 1 boiled or poached egg or egg substitute, 1/2 grapefruit and any calorie-free beverage. Lunch and dinner both call for 3 1/2 ounces of white fish, 1/2 cup of cooked spinach, 1 cup of lettuce, 1/2 grapefruit and any calorie-free beverage. Additionally, followers of the Lindora Plateau diet are instructed to consume a cup of hot lemon water at bedtime.
Neither the Lindora Lean for Life nor Plateau diet adheres to eating guidelines recommended by the United States Department of Agriculture. According to the USDA, a healthy diet should consist of 45 to 65 percent carbohydrate, 10 to 35 percent protein and 20 to 35 percent fat. The USDA recommends that your diet emphasize fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, lean sources of protein and low-fat dairy products. Healthy weight loss involves reducing calories, not excluding particular food groups. Healthy weight loss is generally between 1/2 pound and 2 pounds per week, depending on your starting weight.
