Does Kickboxing Get Rid of Flabby Upper Arms?

By William McCoy

Getting rid of fat in any one part of your body, including your upper arms, requires you to achieve a caloric deficit. You can reach this deficit, which describes burning more calories than you consume, through frequent exercises, such as kickboxing, and healthy dietary changes. Although it's not possible to solely burn fat in a desired area, practicing kickboxing several times a week can potentially result in the loss of fat from several parts of your body. Always consult a doctor before beginning any new exercise regimen.

Kicking Away the Calories

Burning calories through up-tempo exercises plays a significant role in helping you burn fat. Kickboxing, notes Harvard Health Publications, burns calories quickly. A 155-pound person burns about 372 calories in a half hour of kickboxing, while a 185-pound person burns about 444 calories in the same length of time. This calorie burn is comparable to treading water.

Keep Kicking for Fat Loss

Given that spot reduction is a myth, you can't exclusively burn the fat off your flabby upper arms with any exercise, including kickboxing. When you make this sport a regular part of your workout regimen, however, and reduce your calorie intake, you'll begin to experience fat loss throughout your body -- including from your upper arms. The punches in a kickboxing workout also strengthen your arms, which can create defined upper arms once you lose the fat.
