Greasy, Fatty Foods & Sugary Foods

Paying attention to the food you put into your mouth is one of the best ways to achieve good health. Amy Rost reports in her book, "Natural Healing Wisdom & Know How: Useful Practices, Recipes, and Formulas for a Lifetime of Health," that choosing greasy, fatty and sugary foods will have a negative impact on your immune system. As such, your risk of the common cold as well as more serious illnesses such as cancer and diabetes will rise. Knowing the most common food sources of grease, fat and sugar will help you develop healthier eating habits.

French Fries

French fries are a fast food staple, and many people consume far more of them than what is considered eating in moderation. Rost notes that a diet high in fatty and greasy foods, like French fries, weakens your heart, leads to weight gain and slows your digestive and circulatory systems. French fries are often fried in oil that contains trans fats, which are the most dangerous type of fat and can lead to clogged arteries and heart disease, as well as obesity and diabetes. Other fried foods, such as chicken nuggets and fish sticks, can have similar health effects.

Pizza

While many types of pizza include healthy toppings, such as peppers and onions, they also can contain several grams of saturated fat as well as huge portions of full-fat greasy cheese. Many varieties of pizza, including some frozen pizzas, use trans fat to create a flaky and crispy crust. These trans fats are dangerous for your health. Full-fat cheese adds several grams of saturated fat and when large amounts are used, your slice of pizza is swimming in grease. Other toppings, including sausage and pepperoni, also add fat and grease to your pizza.

Soda

Soda has been linked to an increase in obesity, weight gain and diabetes. A diet that includes too much sugar can also lead to cancer and heart disease. Connie Bennett, Nicholas Perricone and Stephen T. Sinatra, authors of "Sugar Shock!: How Sweets And Simple Carbs Can Derail Your Life--and How You Can Get it Back on Track," add that too much sugar from foods like soda can impact your mental well-being as well. A 12-oz. serving of soda can contain up to 42 g of sugar, which is about 10 teaspoons.

Baked Goods

Many people rely heavily on doughnuts, pastries, cookies, cakes and pies for snacks and for desserts, Bennett, Perricone and Sinatra note. The reliance on sugary foods like this can cause unhealthy blood sugar spikes and crashes and may even lead to diabetes. Filling your diet with baked goods also leaves less room for you to consume healthier alternatives, which can lead to weight gain and obesity. One serving of some baked goods can set you back as much as 50 g of sugar. Many baked goods are also high in trans fats and saturated fats.
