Vegetable Juice and Protein

By Nina K. ; Updated April 18, 2017

Far more nutritious than soft drinks and less sugary than most fruit juices, vegetable juice provides a cornucopia of vitamins and minerals to help keep you healthy. But vegetable juice only provides a small portion of the protein you need each day, so look to other sources such as beans, fish, nuts and reduced-fat cheeses to get your fill of this important nutrient.

Protein Content

On average, canned vegetable juice cocktail provides about 1.7 grams of protein per 6-ounce serving. To meet the recommended daily allowance, most men need about 56 grams of protein per day, while most women need about 46 grams. Therefore, one can of vegetable juice provides about 3 percent of a man's protein needs and about 3.5 percent of a woman's needs. For comparison, one large egg contains 6.3 grams of protein, well over triple the amount in that can of vegetable juice.
