Free 5-Day Diet Plans to Lose Weight
It’s natural to want to lose weight quickly rather than taking things slowly and steadily. However, lasting weight loss comes through permanent change rather than quick fixes. While it is possible to drop weight in just five days through a strict, low-calorie diet plan, it’s not likely that the weight will stay off over time.
Eating very low-calorie, nutritious foods as part of a five-day diet plan could bring notable health benefits. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's MyPyramid.gov, low-cal options such as fruits and vegetables reduce risks of overweight and obesity as well as kidney stones, bone loss, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and stroke.
A balanced diet plan contains daily servings of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and nonfat dairy. The healthiest way to lose weight in five days is by following such a plan but significantly restricting or limiting daily calorie intake. The National Institutes of Health, or NIH, also recommends losing weight by avoiding trans fat, saturated fat, added sugar, cholesterol and sodium in food products.
Free diet plans aren’t always easy to come by, but there are several reliable sources to check. Libraries often have reference materials that relate to nutrition or sample plans, and the cookbooks and food publications they have on hand might also contain sample plans. People who are members of gyms, fitness establishments or health-food organizations may be able to find low-calorie or weight-loss diet plans through those outlets. Finally, it’s possible to build your own plan for free by crafting daily menus with MyPyramid.gov as a guide.
If you burn more calories than you consume, you will lose weight over time. The most notable results will appear over weeks or months and not in just five days, but cutting enough calories every day can help you lose a pound or two within that period of time. According to the National Institutes of Health, reducing daily intake by 1,000 calories will result in two pounds of weight loss per week; adding daily exercise to burn extra calories could accelerate that pace to two pounds within five days.
Be careful. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, states that people who lose more than two pounds per week are not as likely to keep that weight off through time and may suffer consequent health risks. It’s advisable to talk with a physician or registered dietitian before beginning any new diet or weight-loss plan and to always prioritize health and safety over short-term results.
