How Much Fat & Calories Does Chinese Food Have?
Those watching their waistlines may grab a Chinese food buffet for lunch or take-out for dinner. Some Chinese dishes are battered, deep fried and loaded with saturated fat, calories and sodium, which can lead to obesity and heart disease.
Fried Rice
Before the rice is fried, white and brown rice contain 200 calories per cup per MSNBC.com. The Center for Science in the Public Interest reports that once fried, a serving of rice contains 1,500 calories and 10 grams of fat.
Egg Rolls
One egg roll contains 200 calories and 2 grams of saturated fat, thanks to the frying process. Chose the spring roll, as opposed to the egg roll, and save half the fat and calories as spring rolls contain 100 calories and 1 gram of saturated fat.
Sweet and Sour Chicken
Sweet and sour chicken harbors a whopping 1,300 calories and 11 grams of saturated fat. It can still be enjoyed, however, but hold the sauce and ask for broiled chicken instead of fried.
Beef and Broccoli
The Center for Science in the Public Interest reports this popular dish has 900 calories and 9 grams of fat due to the beef and calorie-rich sautéing sauces. Get a to-go box and eat the other half later, thereby only consuming 450 calories and 4.5 grams of fat in one meal.
