Natural Fat Burning Enzymes

Often times, weight loss is treated by artificial means such as prescription medication or surgery. If you are looking for a natural solution, enzymes may be the answer that you are looking for. Your body is actually quite efficient at burning fat and it does this with enzymes.


Enzymes are proteins that cause another substance to change, but during this process, enzymes remain physically unchanged. The body naturally contains enzymes. Every cell in your body has them because they are essential for all processes of the body. They are responsible for converting fats, carbohydrates and proteins into energy that is useable in your body.

Lipase and Obesity

There appears to be a direct association between lipase activity in the body and obesity. Researchers at the National Institutes of Health in Phoenix, Arizona observed fat breakdown in the body and how it is related to weight gain. They determined that if a person is inefficient at oxidizing fat, there is an associated gain in weight. Lipase activity is responsible for this breakdown of fat.

Coppack and colleagues observed that a decreased amount of fat breakdown by lipase, leads to a higher level of fat in the circulatory system. This has been associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease. Clearly, it is important for your body to burn fat efficiently.


In order to aid in the body’s ability to burn fat, you can supplement your diet with the enzyme lipase. While lipase does exist in your body, it also occurs naturally in the food you eat. Look for naturally fatty or oily foods. They typically have a high content of lipase. Examples include avocados, almonds and olive oil. Papayas are an exceptional source of lipase.


The structure of enzymes can change when exposed to heat. This process is known as denaturation, destroys the functionality of the enzyme. An article published in the “Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemisty” explored this process. It was found that the lipase in rapeseed samples was inactivated when exposed to temperatures of 100 degrees Celsius. In another study conducted at the Swedish Institute for Food Research, lipase activity was observed in oats. When the oats were heated the lipase was deactivated. In order to maximize the amount of fat burning lipase in your diet, try consuming more fresh, uncooked food. This will ensure that the enzyme is still active.
