How Many Calories in 1/2 Cup Ground Flaxseed?
The high amounts of fiber and omega-3 fats in flaxseeds may help lower your risk for high cholesterol, heart disease, constipation and certain types of cancer, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The typical dosage used for achieving these benefits is between 1 and 4 tablespoons per day. If you eat 1/2 cup of ground flaxseed, you'll want to eat less of other foods to make up for the calories in the flaxseed.

Each tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains 37 calories, so a 1/2-cup serving contains 296 calories. Most of the calories in ground flaxseed come from fat. Only 2 out of the 23.6 grams of fat in this serving consist of the unhealthy saturated fat, however, which can raise your cholesterol levels.
