Culturelle is advertised as an all natural probiotic that promotes good digestion health, helps maintain regularity and supports the immune system and optimum health. The bacteria in Culturelle is believed to survive stomach acid to help increase the good gut bacteria that improves gut health.
The active ingredient in Cuturelle is Lactobacillus GG. Bacteria is found naturally in the gut some helping to fight disease and infection while others decrease the immune system. Lactobacillus is considered a naturally occurring friendly bacteria. Lactobacillus GG has been shown to help treat diarrhea caused by both virus and bacteria in adults as well as children. Lactobacillus GG is grown on whey, therefore it may contain traces of milk product. There is a dairy free product available.
Microcrystalline cellulose is found as a filler in some of the Culturelle products. It is a white, fine, odorless, powder made from plant pulp. It is used in foods as an emulsifier, stabilizer, and anti-caking and dispersing agent.
The Culturelle capsule is made from gelatin, normally formed from animal products. There are natural vegetable-based capsules for vegetarians.
Inulin, made from chicory root extract, is available in some of the Culturelle products. It is a plant based fiber that is not digested by the upper gastrointestinal tract. It is believed to stimulate the growth of gut bacteria.
