Supplements That Stimulate the Release of Human Growth Hormone

Human growth hormone is a protein hormone that is released by the anterior pituitary gland. It is responsible for numerous functions in the body, including boosting muscle mass and removing fatty acids from fat cells. Although growth hormone can be injected into the body, a safer alternative is to take science-backed supplements that have been proven to be effective in stimulating the release of growth hormone in the body.


In a 1995 study conducted by Tomas C. Welbourne that was published in the “American Journal of Clinical Nutrition,” researchers examined the effects of glutamine supplementation on growth hormone release. Healthy participants ingested 2g of the amino acid glutamine 20 minutes and 45 minutes after a light breakfast consisting of toast and juice. The amino acid arginine might have beneficial effects on the secretion of growth hormone, according to findings reported in the 2004 issue of the “Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.” Bill Campbell and colleagues, of the Exercise and Sport Nutrition Laboratory at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, reviewed the ergogenic potential of arginine 1. They concluded that arginine stimulates growth hormone output by suppressing somatostatin secretion, a hormone that inhibits the release of growth hormone. Furthermore, the review also revealed that 12g to 30g of arginine is needed to boost growth hormone levels.


Researchers investigated the impact of the compound alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine, or A-GPC, on growth hormone release, according to research reported in the 2008 issue of the “Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.” Participants ingested A-GPC or a placebo 90 minutes prior to performing weight training 2.
