What Are the Benefits of Tazo Calm Tea?

By Joanne Marie

Tazo Calm tea is a blend of berries, flowers and fruits that may provide a calming influence and increase relaxation. It does not contain any tea. It is also caffeine-free. Tazo Calm tea is packaged as single-serving, flow-through tea bags, and is brewed by steeping in boiling water for about five minutes.

Chamomile Flowers

Chamomile flowers are listed as the first ingredient in Tazo Calm tea. These flowers have been used for centuries to make various medicines. According to Medline Plus, the flowers contain chemicals that may relax muscles and cause sleepiness. It is considered safe, though it should not be used during pregnancy as it may result in a miscarriage. Some people may be allergic to chamomile, and in large amounts, it can cause vomiting.

Hibiscus Flowers

Tazo Calm tea also contains hibiscus flowers. Some evidence suggests that tea made from these flowers helps to lower blood pressure. In a study funded by the Agricultural Research Service, volunteers who drank hibiscus tea daily for several weeks had a drop in blood pressure compared to a test group that drank a placebo tea.

Peppermint Leaves

Tazo Calm tea uses dried peppermint leaves. These leaves have a high content of menthol, making them aromatic. The leaves have been used traditionally for a variety of conditions, including anxiety, headache and stress, according to Home Remedies Web. Peppermint has no serious side effects, though it is not advised for pregnant or nursing women, and people with gastrointestinal problems such as heartburn or acid reflux should avoid it.

Blackberry Leaves

Blackberry leaves are also included in Tazo Calm tea. These leaves have been used since ancient times as a curative. They contain high levels of vitamin C and tannins, and they may soothe the gastrointestinal system. Blackberry leaves have no known side effects.
