How to Make a Body Spray With Oils

By M.H. Dyer ; Updated August 14, 2017

Select a variety of your favorite aromatic essential oils to create a natural body spray that will be uniquely yours. Combine the essential oils with simple carrier ingredients like distilled water and alcohol, and the light, refreshing scent will last all day. Use essential oils with care, and be sure the oils are diluted before using them on your skin, advises the University of Minnesota Center for Spirituality and Healing.

Purchase a spray bottle with a medium-size nozzle. If the bottle has been used previously, rinse it in a solution of 10 parts water and 1 part household bleach. Be sure all traces of bleach are completely removed.

Place 2 cups distilled water in the spray bottle. Add 3 tbsp. of vodka or other unscented alcohol in the spray bottle. Alcohol will combine effectively with the essential oils and release the fragrance in the body spray. Without alcohol, the essential oil will settle at the bottom of the spray bottle, as essential oils won't mix with water alone.

Add 20 to 25 drops of essential oils in aromas of your choice. Use 9 drops each of mandarin and orange essential oil with 5 drops of lemon verbena oil for a citrus body spray. Combine 8 drops of rose oil and 8 drops of lavender oil with 4 drops of citrus essential oil for a floral body spray. Make a body spray for men with cedar, rosemary, eucalyptus or sandalwood essential oils.

Shake the spray bottle gently to combine the ingredients. Shake the body spray gently before each use.
