Active Ingredients in Sinutab
Sinutab is a brand name of medicinal caplets owned by the pharmaceutical company, Pfizer. Sinutab products are manufactured for relieving sinus, nasal and chest symptoms caused by the common cold, local infections and allergies. Sinutab’s three products contain different combinations of active ingredients for specific symptomatic relief.
Sinutab Non-Drying Caplets
Sinutab Non-Drying caplets are used as a decongestant and expectorant combination, for symptoms caused by bronchitis and the common cold. The two active ingredients in Sinutab Non-Drying are guaifenesen and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride. Guaifenesin is classified as the expectorant and it helps loosen phlegm from the throat and chest, which makes coughing productive. Pseudoephedrine is classified as the nasal decongestant and it helps to decrease swelling in the nasal passages and constrict blood vessels. Sinutab Non-Drying Maximum Strength contains 200 mg of guaifenesin and 30 mg of pseudoephedrine per caplet.
Sinutab Sinus Caplets
Sinutab Sinus caplets are used for “temporary relief of headache, nasal congestion, sinus pressure and congestion,” according to Sinutab.com. The two active ingredients in Sinutab Sinus are acetaminophen and phenylephrine hydrochloride. Acetaminophen is classified as a pain and fever reducer, and works by affecting how the brain processes pain and regulates body temperature. Phenylephrine is classified as the nasal decongestant and helps to shrink dilated blood vessels in the nasal passages. Sinutab Sinus Maximum Strength contains 325 mg of acetaminophen and 5 mg of phenylephrine per caplet. The Extra Strength variety contains more acetaminophen--500 mg.
Sinutab Sinus Allergy Caplets
Sinutab Sinus Allergy caplets are used to temporarily relieve symptoms of hay fever, runny nose, sinus congestion, sneezing, watery eyes, itchy nose or throat, and headache caused by allergies or the common cold. The three active ingredients in Sinutab Sinus Allergy are acetaminophen, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride and chlorpheniramine maleate. Acetaminophen works as an analgesic and psuedoephedrine as a nasal decongestant, as noted. Chlorpheniramine is classified as an antihistamine, which helps to reduce chemicals in the nasal passages that lead to inflammation, such as histamine, according to Mosby’s Drug Consult. Sinutab Sinus Allergy Maximum Strength contains 325 mg of acetaminophen, 30 mg of pseudoephedrine and 2 mg of chlorpheniramine per caplet. The Extra Strength variety contains more acetaminophen--500 mg.
