How to Watch Champions League for Free

By Robert van der Does

The Champions League is soccer's most prestigious and lucrative club competition. It pits Europe's top sides against each other in a round-robin group stage from which the top two of each of the eight groups advance to the last 16, where it becomes a knockout format to the final. Unfortunately, in many countries, especially outside Europe, Champions League games are not shown on broadcast television. Most of the big matches can however be watched on free Internet streams that vary in quality.

Enjoying A Match Online

Access a free streaming site that lists all the channels that show live Champions League matches. There are a few soccer streaming sites that provide links to all the major games played worldwide. Among these sites are myP2P.eu, realsportz.net and veetle.com. European Champions League matches are usually prioritized over matches from any other competition when it comes to coverage.

It's best to download some applications that enable you to watch a game online. Veetle for instance has its own software that you must download in order to watch any of their channels. It is quick and easy to install and takes up minimal space. The myP2P site provides multiple links to channels that often require the running of SopCast. Download the latest version of this application at sopcast.org. It's ideal to download it about half an hour before your match is due to start, as it may take a while to save it.

Once SopCast is saved, unzip the file and run the setup program. Once finished a SopCast icon should appear on your desktop. There are alternative applications, such as UUsee, but they are often Chinese-language only and therefore it's difficult for non-Chinese-language speakers to follow the directions on how to install them.

You'll find matches listed under "football" in the "live sports" section of the myP2P site. Click on the TV icon on the far right that corresponds to the match you wish to watch and the page displaying all the links to that match comes up.

Double click your SopCast icon to open it. Select "Login as anonymous" and "Auto login on this computer" on the screen that comes up and then click "login." If you click a SopCast link on the links page, your match stream should immediately start buffering and your match will be ready to enjoy. Some links on myP2P are labeled "others" and provide a free media player to use to watch streams. While the media player may not require anything other than a strong online connection, it is likely to run less smoothly and be of lower picture quality than a SopCast player link.
