How to Tie a High-Top Basketball Shoe

By Chris Blake

Along with a basketball and a rim, basketball shoes may be one of the most important pieces of equipment for players. High-top shoes are important because they provide extra support for feet and ankles. Feet provide a foundation for the rest of the body and act as shock absorbers for sudden movements during basketball games. For those reasons, it is important that a basketball shoe be tied tightly and correctly to prevent the chance of foot or ankle injury.

Lace your high-top basketball shoes with the proper laces. When you purchase these laces, a size will be displayed on the packages. Pick the size of the shoe lace that matches the size of your shoe.

Thread the lace through each islet, all the way up to the top of the shoe. While lacing your shoes, remember to run the laces through the loop attached to the tongue. Doing so will ensure that the tongue of your shoe does not slip during games. Utilizing every islet will provide extra support.

Pass the left shoe lace over the right, or vice versa depending on your dominant hand.

Cross the desired shoe string end back underneath, so the strings are intertwined, and pull tightly.

Make a loop with one end of the shoe string.

Using the lace you did not loop, circle it around the loop you just made and pull it through as tightly as you can.
